My name is Lynda Dedrick. I'd like to take a minute to tell you a little about myself and the kennel name Kandu.
I've been involved with several different breeds over the years, but became totally committed to this breed shortly after bringing my first Great Dane puppy home. Like most new owners, I only wanted a companion dog to love. Frazier was that, and so much more. His legacy inspires my continued involvement in the Great Dane breed.
Frazier provided a continual learning experience for me. He endured a multitude of health problems including: parvo virus, chronic pancreatitis, food sensitivities, to name only a few. Having obtained Frazier from a source other than a reponsible breeder, I've learned to appreciate how helpful and supportive a knowledgeable breeder can be. Frazier introduced me to the fun of obedience training and the many other joys (and sorrows) that are associated with this wonderful breed.
When Frazier was 3, he ruptured his cruciate ligament. Sadly, this happened just two months before I planned to attend and compete in his second obedience trial. Surgery, time, and the onset of degenerative joint disease confirmed my fears; his post operative physical limitations prohibited him from future competitive obedience. He was destined to be my non-competitive best friend.
I missed the classes and training associated with obedience competition. So, with obedience goals in mind, I set out to bring another Dane puppy home to love. This time I sought a responsible breeder to provide a housemate for my beloved Frazier. I selected my new puppy from a litter produced by Gayle Roberts of Ga-Mac Kennels.
Enter Stormi; a nine week old bundle of brindle joy. Little did I know Stormi would fulfill my obedience competition goals and SO much more. With Stormi's breeder's help and encouragement, we cautiously stepped into the AKC conformation breed ring. It was to begin a passion I didn't realize existed.
Stormi is now Am/Int'l CH Ga-Mac's Rainy Day Woman CD CGC TDI
Stormi obtained her Canine Good Citizen Award (CGC) in 2000. Her AKC Obedience Companion Dog Title (CD) in 2001, and was awarded her AKC Conformation Championship (CH) in 2002. The TDI at the end of her name, signifies she has been tested and certified as a therapy dog, by * Therapy Dogs International *, which qualifies her to visit nursing homes world wide. In 2002 she also received the Great Dane Club of America (GDCA) versatility award. Stormi also obtained both her National Puppy Championship (IABCA) in 1999, and her International Championship (IABCA) in 2001.
My kennel name, *Kandu Great Danes*, reflects my belief that Great Danes CAN DO it all. They can be loving pets, have sound health necessary to compete in the rigors of obedience, as well as beauty and proper structure needed to compete and win in the conformation breed ring. Additionally, Danes can have trustworthy temperaments which are an absolute necessity for a dog to earn the privilege of nursing home visits.
And who knows what more our Great Danes KANDU??
